Despite this, there are growing societal expectations about these interactions, and therefore EFPIA is committed to introducing greater transparency around industry’s financial transactions with HCPs and the healthcare organisations (HCOs) for which they work. We are keen to work with HCPs on this process, but have also committed to deliver the platform by 2016. This initiative builds on existing governance guidelines and codes of practice and aims to complement other similar activities such as the ‘European Commission Corporate Responsibility Platform’, where EFPIA (among others) has adopted a “List of Guiding Principles Promoting Good Governance in the Pharmaceutical Sector”.

We believe that by taking this initiative, we can respond to external concerns in a consistent and comprehensive way and avoid duplicative and unnecessary regulation. The industry’s and healthcare professionals’ interests are therefore best served by shaping the process together.
